After a lifetime of seeing them in the movies and reading about them in storybooks, last night I witnessed lightning bugs firsthand for the first time and it was amazing. We all sat on the front porch steps and watched them flashing in the night sky for a long time. I can't wait for tonight so I can see them again.

Lightning bugs were our favorite things growing up. We use to take the butts off while they were glowing and use them as jewelry gross huh. The missionaries that came to Ohio couldn't believe them they thought they were something people made up.
They are so cool. We would watch them all the time from our porch when we lived out in Michigan. I wish we had those in UT.
I'm glad you got to see them but sad you couldn't stay.
I can't believe you've never seen them!! I grew up with them. This boy Donnie I had a crush on gave me a lightening bug ring. So funny. When the the bug is lighting up you pinch the tail off and it stays lit. Then you place on your girl's finger!! Poor lightening bug!!
